ALP Transport policy:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/41767348/Going-Places-Better-Transport-for-All-Victorians
"Many Victorians enjoy cycling either to work or for fun. We understand
how important cycling is as a greener and healthier transport option.
That's why the Brumby Labor Government has connected more cyclists to
higher quality bike paths and lanes and opened Melbourne Bike Share, which
is now operating from 50 sites with helmets at over 40 central locations"
On bikes at railway stations:
"more parking and bike storage will be built" (presumably parking=cars)
Park and Ride and bike cage initiatives are to get $M56.8 - how much of
that is for expensive car parks and how much for secure bicycle parking?
Why do these get lumped together?

The Greens have posted a 6-point plan for cycling on their website:
http://vic.greens.org.au/content/bicycle-action-plan
In Melbourne, 53% of car trips are less than 5km and many of these trips
could be made by bicycle instead.
To achieve this it is essential that people feel safe and comfortable
riding, as research suggests the main issue holding people back from
embracing cycling is the perception that it is not safe.
The Greens' Six Point bicycle action plan:
1. Increase the cycling budget
2. Provide more space for bicycles on the roads.
3. Protect vulnerable road users via the law
4. Introduce a 30km speed limit
5. Safety upgrade for entire inner and regional cities
6. Building for increased bicycle use in outer suburbs and rural areas

Policies for Brunswick, election 2010 Victoria
* Construction of a Melbourne to Bendigo Rail Trail, along the former
Heathcote line. Regional economic stimulus through cycle tourism.
* State Government to override Melbourne City Council and devise a
sensible shared access regime for cyclists and pedestrians to Melbourne's
‘garden' parks. Safer access to the CBD for less confident cyclists.
* Glass beverage container deposit legislation. More recycling, and
fewer punctures! Let's make our city ‘barefoot safe'.
* Upgrade the Westgate Bridge Bike Punt and run it 24/7. Bike access
for the South West.
* Traffic fines graduated according to income, and penalties for
different vehicle classes to reflect potential for causing damage. Common
sense and equity in traffic penalties.
* Custodial sentences and destructive impoundment for road rage
against cyclists or pedestrians. Rein in the hoon element and make the
streets more inviting for less confident riders.
* Urgent resuscitation of music education in state primary schools.
Fairness and cultural values in education.
