Wellington St!
Wellington Street Copenhagen bicycle lanes were debated at council last
night with a report presented "/That a further report on this matter be
brought back to the 17 December Council meeting outlining the
consequences for the Bicycle Strategy of not proceeding with the
Wellington Street Copenhagen lanes at this time."/
There was a good debate amongst the councillors with 5 members of the
public speaking on each side of the topic. After 2.5hrs of debate a
motion was passed that effectively said that council officers will
finalise a permanent Copenhagen bicycle lane between Victoria and
Johnston Street. Council officers will tender for the work and then
seek permission from council to construct the works based on the
tendered costs. It is likely that this will occur around July.

Also, we are currently looking at upgrading the Rathdowne Street
buffered bicycle lane to include green paint at some intersection and
the inclusion of a 'dooring' buffer by reducing the width of the traffic
lane.
Hoping to catch up with some of you tonight at the Napier Hotel from 6:30pm.
Cheers,
Kate
