Finally an useful update on the continuing Main Yarra Trail closure 
saga, many thanks to Julia from BBUG.

Reopening planned for 8th August, depending on a few things, obviously, 
read further details below ;)

As I'm sure most of you know the Yarra Trail has been closed for some 
time between Barkly Avenue and Punt Road, since a very cold morning left 
ice on one of the pontoon sections leading to a large number of 
accidents. The problem of the icy surface was compounded by the fact 
that silt had built up under the pontoon causing it to tilt.

I've just had a phone conversation with Louise Daniel from Ted 
Baillieu's office who provided the following information which she asked 
me to pass on to interested parties.

Minister Ryan Smith will be making a press release sometime next week to 
announce emergency funding to fix the problem. Works have already 
started to deal with the ice issue. Dredging to remove the silt will 
take 4-6 weeks. The trail will be reopened about 8^th August depending 
on tides, but may need to be closed again at times of low tide until the 
dredging is complete. Signs will be in place at these times.

So, reasonably good news.
