Yarra Bicycle Users Group enquiries at yarrabug.org
Sat Feb 2 19:33:23 AEDT 2008

Hi all,

Feeling less than match fit after an extended festive break? Well there's more than enough bicycle fun around Melbourne to get you back
into shape. Or there's a event or two you can just watch, if that's required too. Although February 24 looks as if you'll have to flip a
coin to decide what event to participate in. ;)

For those of you who are interested in starting the radio announcer training at 3CR, a email is on it's way shortly with more details.

YarraBUG Meetings for 2008: the finer details are still being worked out, but this year we may break the mold and have meetings NOT on a
school night (ie: on a weekend, not weeknight).

Believe or not we've been contacted by enthusiastic locals who would like to start organising rides, so if you also feel similarly enthused
to help out, *please* contact us & lets get some fun rides planned for 2008. Email: enquiries at yarrabug.org or call Chris 0407 825 467 or Steve:
0439 600 350

For more Melbourne-based cycling events, have a look at the Melbourne Cyclist calendar - middle column & scroll down a bit. Know of another
ride or event? Then please let us know so we can help to promote it.

2. DarebinBUG Historic Pub Tour - 3 February
Sorry for the late notice - but here's the details if you can make it along. Local cyclists are gearing up to tour Darebin's hotels but the
emphasis won't be on beer. Instead, the history of the grand old dames, some dating back to the 1800s, will be recalled at each stop before riders retire to Northcote's
Peacock Hotel for lunch.

Darebin Bicycle Users Group member Marcus Ellard came up with the idea after browsing through Gary Edge's work
Surviving the Six O'Clock Swill; A History of Darebin's Hotels."I thought it'd be interesting to do a brief five minutes on each pub,
especially as so many of them played a part in the cultural and political development of Melbourne's inner north," he said.
Mr Ellard said the three-hour ride was open to the community but not suitable for beginners. "We'll be riding along bike trails, quiet roads
and cycle lanes," he said. "It'll require above average to moderate fitness."

The tour will depart from the Jika Jika Community Centre, cnr Union and Plant streets, Northcote on Sunday, February 3, at 9.45am.
