Melbourne City Council is considering objections to the Albert St bike
lanes, which include some "Copenhagen" lanes and some on-road "paint only"
lanes, between Hoddle St and Gisbourne St. There have been 20 objections
and only one letter of support.
See the plans at
http://www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/opm/bc/CTEE/meetings/PC_57_20080205.pdf
Council Committee is meeting Tuesday 5/2 to consider the objections and
will either issue a permit or reject it.
Most important that you write a letter to reach Council before Tuesday
midday, as follows:
Submitting correspondence or addressing committee meetings
Anybody may address a committee or submit correspondence in relation to
any item listed on the agenda for that meeting. Generally speaking,
submittors are not heard at Council meetings.
Written correspondence or requests to address a committee meeting must be
received by the Council Business team no later than 12 noon on the day of
the meeting.
Requests to address a commitee meeting should include:
the agenda item and report title you want to speak or write about;
your key points;
the name of the organisation you are representing and your role, if you
are presenting on behalf of one; and
any equipment you will need to address the committee.
Any correspondence you submit should follow this outline as well. Bear in
mind that these documents are public. Copies will be provided to anyone
who asks for them and they will be kept with the records of the
meeting. This is particularly important if you think you might put
personal information in the document.
The committees give speakers three minutes to present their views and
encourage groups to nominate a single speaker. Speakers must be present
at the time the item is considered by the committee or they will lose
their opportunity to address the committee. When a council officer has
presented the agenda item, the chair of the committees will invite
speakers to address the committee. Speakers address the committee in the
order in which the requests were received.
You can make your request to address a committee meeting or submit your
correspondence by emailing the Council Business team or faxing to 9658
8084. You can also deliver your request to the Front Desk, Melbourne Town
Hall Administration Building or post it to the Council Business team, PO
Box 1603, Melbourne, 3000.
