*1. News from Yarra Council: long term works @ Walmer Street, 
Abbotsford. Please forward on: *
Council is in the process of approving the use of Walmer St for trucks 
to access the SALTA site.  Trucks will be using the street for 
approximately 8 months as and from next week. (mid April 2013)
A shared pedestrian and cyclist zone shall be created which shall be 
protected by barriers.

*2. Heads up - Shared path closure: The path through Smith Reserve (near 
Fitzroy Pool) will be closed in the week commencing 22 April 2013*
Can you please pass along through your networks. Cyclist and pedestrian 
access through the park will be restricted while Council carries out 
work to widen the shared path.
Please see the map attached for suggested detours.

These detours are expected to be in place for one week from Monday 22 
April. Southbound cyclists and pedestrians are advised to head west 
along Alexandra Parade, turn left into Young Street and then left again 
into Westgarth Street.
Northbound cyclists and pedestrians on Napier Street are advised to head 
west along Cecil Street from the park, turn right into Young Street and 
then right again at Alexandra Parade.

*3. Upcoming Cyclist Safety Forum: *Cyclist Safety Forum organised by 
Institute of Transportation Engineers for Wednesday 24 April 2013 at the 
Richmond Town Hall from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm.

Potential speakers are from:

  * Victoria Police
  * O'Brien Traffic: left turn slip lanes
  * Bicycle Network Victoria
  * VicRoads: bicycles through roundabouts
  * Amy Gillet Foundation

*4. Yarra Council: Another opportunity to have your say*
I would also like to draw your attention to the new draft Council Plan 
that will soon be available for comment. It is expected to be on public 
exhibition online and at all customer service centres and libraries from 
17 April for 28 days.
You are invited to read the draft Council Plan and contribute ideas and 
comments on how it can be improved to best reflect aspirations for Yarra.
You can find out more about Council's draft Budget and draft Council 
Plan at upcoming joint community information sessions.

5. News from DarebinBUG: Hello Moonee BUG, Moreland BUG,  Banyule BUG, 
Whittlesea BUG, Yarra BUG and Rail Trails Australia

You're invited .... A new life for an ageing Victorian rail trail (with 
possible future connections for Melbourne!)

Overview:** Being one of the earliest Victorian rail trails (initial 
section 1992-93 period), post 1999 the O'Keefe Rail Trail had become a 
forgotten trail by its manager. In 2009, some Bendigo community members 
embarked on a journey to reverse the declining popularity and condition 
of this trail and put a new vision forward for its future. That journey

*6. Have Your Say to Shape Cycling in Bayside*
To help us prepare the best Bicycle Strategy for Bayside we need to hear 
from you. Bayside City Council is wanting your input on how we can 
improve facilities for cyclists and get people on bikes. The strategy is 
part of Council's commitment to providing a transport system that meets 
the needs of all residents. On the tabs below you can see the latest 
news about the project as well as add your voice to the Have Your Say 
discussion forums.

Please feel free to contribute to the forum and share details of the 
forum with anyone else who you think may be interested in taking part. 
The forum will run until 13 May 2013.

*7. Hanover are looking for a volunteer Bike Mechanic @ Southbank, 
details + link below: *
Our Southbank Adult Crisis Accommodation Service is looking for an 
experienced enthusiastic bike mechanic to run a weekly workshop on 
bicycle maintenance with people experiencing homelessness.

If you can comfortably communicate with a small group, teach people some 
useful new skills and help raise community awareness of homelessness, 
then this is the volunteer job for you!
You will receive onsite support and you will be part of an innovative 
team. We need a commitment of at least 6 months at 2 hours per week and 
can be flexible about days.
If you're interested in applying for this volunteer position please
