water system at a discounted rate? Time is running out for Yarra

*Where the streets have new lanes (5 February 2012)*
Cyclists now have more room to move along a popular route in Princes
Hill following recent road works. New markings on Pigdon Street (between
Bowen Crescent and Lygon Street) now give cyclists an on-road cycle lane
that provides a metre-wide buffer from both parked and moving vehicles.
The extra buffer zone between cyclists and parked cars provides further
protection for cyclists when car doors are being opened.

*Bicycle parking trial*
News from Heidi Marfurt, City of Yarra, Sustainable Transport Officer: I
thought you might like the heads up on a trial of new bicycle parking
that is being conducted in Yarra. The bike parking facilities are known
as ‘Pole Vault’ rails. The rails are mounted on existing street signs
and are designed to provide better support for bikes when they are
chained up to prevent them from falling over.
More at:
http://www.yarracity.vic.gov.au/Parking-roads-and-transport/Sustainable-transport/Bike-parking-trial/

The facilities have now been installed at three locations in Fitzroy
including:

  * Brunswick Street, east side, north of Moor Street (attached to
    parking pole outside Thomas Gannan)
  * Brunswick Street, east side, north of Rose Street (attached to
    parking pole outside Vegie Bar)
  * Scotchmer Street, west side (east of Birkenhead St, near Dench
    Bakers).

We have created a survey to get feedback from users. Please don’t rush
to fill in the survey before checking them out. We’re interested to get
your comments on what the facility is like to use (not just whether you
agree with the concept). You don’t need to go around and check them all
out - you can complete the survey after testing just one of the
installations.

The trial has been promoted in Yarra News and signage promoting the
trial will be in situ by next week.
