Hi all,

Read below for news from Yarra Council - please ensure you've lights on
the bike, if you're riding at night it's pretty much logical!

Council's Strategic Transport Unit has developed a 'Cyclist Visibility
Research Project' via the Roadsafe Inner Melbourne Committee &the
project has reached the implementation phase.

The project will research why some cyclists don't use lights or high
visibility clothing. The project is being conducted in conjunction with
the Cities of Melbourne & Port Phillip as well as the Victoria Police.
Bicycle Victoria have been employed to design & conduct the research.

*The research will be undertaken on key cycling routes throughout the
winter with the first evening occurring May 19^th from 4pm onwards at
the intersection of Canning Street & Princes Street. * *The Police will
stop riders both with and without lights* and Bicycle Victoria will
conduct surveys Those without lights who participate in the survey & a
follow up survey can receive a set of lights worth $70.

There will be 3 evenings of research & the project report will be
presented to the Roadsafe Inner Melbourne Committee & Council in
September 2010.
