Hi all,
Here's a quick news update on latest state government announcements,
local events events calendar (a work in progress!), latest 3CR programs
and tomorrows Ride2Work breakfasts in Yarra.
***
If you haven't noticed yet, Denis Napthine announced (Sunday 5th October
2014) a "$70m boost for cyclists and pedestrians" included in the
construction of East West Link. We suppose that deflects away from a
rather obvious fact that Victoria actually doesn't have a functional
State Bicycle Budget to fund badly needed projects. It's all well &
good for government to come out with these announcements but tell you
what we want, what we all really really want, is sensible long term
committments to supporting and building bicycle infrastructure and not
these announcements conducted in a blaze of public relations guff.

*Cycle Spiral is total spin By Andrew Herington*
The Linking Melbourne Authority has been working overtime with its
latest round of promotion for the East West Link to emphasise it as
somehow "environmentally friendly". Aware of how disastrously unpopular
the East West Link has become, the LMA is belatedly trying to change the
image of the project. The massive 20 metre high Hoddle St flyover is
rebadged as "The Soundwave". The 30 metre smokestacks are now been given
"living green walls", as if this reduces the toxicity of the emissions
from them.

With the sun now shining this is the perfect time to experience the
health, financial and environmental benefits of getting to work by two
wheels.
Council is once again supporting local workplaces, organisations and
community groups to host their own Ride2Work breakfast through the Yarra
Rides2Work program. Council has provided advice, promotional material
and prizes to participating local workplaces and groups, plus
connections to local bike shops that are offering their support.
