Our next BAC meeting is on Wed 20 March, Mayor’s Room, Fitzroy Town Hall. Please enter via the courtyard off Moor St and ring the buzzer. Please arrive by 6.30pm for ease of access.

Update on bicycle works and programs in Yarra 14/03/13

1.      Consultation underway for proposed on-street bicycle corral outside Storm in a Teacup, 48 Smith St, Collingwood

2.      On-street bicycle corral outside Aldi supermarket, 313 Nicholson St, Abbotsford, to be installed in April

3.      Kate Simnett is undertaking survey of central Gertrude St/Smith St/Johnston St to identify locations for additional bike parking – suggestions welcomed

4.      Contraflow lane installed in Young St, between Alexander Pde and Westgarth St, Fitzroy (thanks for feedback)

5.      Bike lanes and sharrows will be installed in Lennox St between Bridge Rd and Highett St this month

6.      Implementation of sharrows/advisory bicycle linemarking in Moor Street, Fitzroy, has been delayed due to resident concerns

7.      Traffic signal plans are being drawn up for Elizabeth St/Hoddle St and Nicholson/Johnston St, Fitzroy, as part of planned improvements for bicycles at those intersections (see attached)

8.      Improvements to Linear Park Path, between Lygon St and Bowen Cres, Princes Hill, is out to tender

9.      Reconstruction and widening of Smith Reserve Path (Napier Street, Fitzroy) is currently underway

10.     Council is working with Richmond West Primary School and Collingwood College to resolve traffic management issues at school pick-up/drop-off times, promoting sustainable transport options and making these modes safer.

·         Ride2School Day<http://www.yarracity.vic.gov.au/Things-to-Do/national-ride2school-day-/> is on 22 March – has your local school registered for this year’s event? Last year Yarra was awarded Best Performing Metropolitan Council in the Local Government Challenge with 14 registered schools. The award was presented to Cr Fristacky at the 5 March 2013 Council meeting .

·         Austcycle Courses<http://vic.cycling.bvit.com.au/default.asp?Page=49184&MenuID=Get_Involved%2F20634%2F46677%2CAustCycle%2F20667%2F49183> for beginner and experienced riders are scheduled for May and June in Richmond.

·         Nominations are now open for the Yarra Sustainability Awards<http://www.yarracity.vic.gov.au/environment/Sustainability-Awards/yarra-sustainability-awards---2013/>. Got a sustainability story to share, possibly something to do with transport? Been chipping away at your business’s footprint, or implementing great ideas at your school? Do you know someone who deserves recognition for their achievements but never put themselves forward? Then nominate yourself, your group or organisation, or someone else before 6 May 2013.
