Hi all
The time has come for our first BAC meeting of the year. We're meeting
from 6.30pm to 8pm this Wed 20 Feb, usual location, Mayor's Room,
Fitzroy Town Hall. Please enter via the courtyard (access off Moor St)

The agenda for the meeting has now been published at:

*A few notes about the agenda:*
Item 2.1 -- Alistair McDonald will speak about the report on Brunswick
St/St Georges Rd route being presented to Council tomorrow evening. The
report can be found at:
http://www.yarracity.vic.gov.au/your-council/meetings/2013-attachments/19-02-2013-attachments-council/
(it's the one called "Options for Improving Bicycle Facilities"). And
here's an abridged version provided by Alistair for your convenience:
After an appraisal of the existing conditions including current cyclists
movements, injury history and road design a number of options for
improvement will be provided to council including
1.Temporary line marking to separate the tram/traffic lane from the bike
lane as a interim measure before re-sheeting the road
2.Re-sheet of the road over 2-3 years starting next financial year
3.Implement improved line marking design to be conducted as part of item
2 above
4.Remove bluestone on the northbound carriageway between the Leicester
Street and Alexandra Parade to be conducted as part of item 2 above
5.Investigate an innovative line marking treatment such as that proposed
on Chapel and Glenferrie Rd to reduce the incidence of doorings
6.Provide a better connection from St Georges Rd to Capital City Trail
including a slip lane and improvements to the width of the St Georges St
signalised crossing
7.Install a new bike lane in both directions to the north of Victoria Parade
8.Install a new bike lane in both direction adjacent to the Fitzroy
Bowls Club at the confluence of Brunswick Street and St Georges Road
9.Advocate for a speed reduction to 30km/hr to the south of Alexandra
10.Advocate for a speed reduction to 40km/hr to the north of Alexandra
11.Add additional green paint at intersections where it is missing or
increase the amount of green paint at other intersections
12.Increase the number of illuminated speed signs
13.Investigate the effectiveness of the Clearway and No Standing
restrictions on Brunswick St/St Georges Road
14.Install early head start signals at Holden and Scotchmer Street
15.Investigate road metering to reduce the number of cars using the road.
We've been forced to carry forward a couple of items due to full agenda
, namely " Cyclist behaviour at Clifton Hill Station, Rushall Station
and Victoria Pde (north side)" and "Cyclist speeds on shared paths."
*Bicycle works update *
As promised, our regular update accompanying the agenda. Most of these
are covered on the agenda if you have any questions.
**
Linear Park -- Shared path upgrade, Bowen Crescent to Lygon St. The
existing asphalt shared path will be upgraded to a 3m wide concrete
shared path. The links to Park street will also be improved. Soon to
go out to tender.
On-street bike parking corrals -- new on-street corral at 72 Rose
street, Fitzroy, installed prior to Christmas.
Lennox Street between Highett St and Bridge Rd -- road reconstruction,
including southbound bike lane and northbound sharrows, within next
3--4 weeks.
Young St between Alexandra Pde and Westgarth St -- contraflow bike lane,
possibly within next 2 weeks.
Following item from last update is yet to be implemented due to the
Jacques development planning to resurface the road as part of their works:
Coppin St -- linemarking of bike lanes between Highett St and Bridge Rd
has been refreshed with addition of bufferzone next to bike lane
(similar to Pigdon St)
Look forward to seeing you on Wednesday
Cheers
Heidi
