AustRoads have recently published new active transport resource: Improving Austroads Guidance for Cycling and Micromobility Planning.

‘This webinar introduced the new Austroads Guidance for Cycling and Micromobility Planning, a resource for professionals seeking to deliver safer outcomes for all road users. The project aimed to deliver a consolidated and nationally consistent approach to cycling and micromobility planning and includes recommended changes to the Austroads Guide to Traffic Management.’

This AustRoads guidance of interest to our current Yarra for safe streets campaign as it includes key safety requirements for bike lane widths: ‘Riders in cycle lanes of not less than 2m wide and 1m buffer to general traffic up to a speed of 40kph‘ and ‘Minimum 2m bike lanes with 0.8m – 1.2m buffer alongside kerbside activity‘ included in Appendix A Cycling Level of Service Tool (Pages 71-74)
