4. Walmer Bridge - when are the ramps!?!
Two Salta developments planned for 627 Victoria Street and 647-649
Victoria Street, Abbotsford appear as if they will greatly impact
upon the Walmer Street area, including the existing bridge and
connecting ramps to the Main Yarra Trail.

For additional background, read Defend The Yarra River Bank for
Walmer Plaza plans, which involve raising Walmer St by two
metres, to accommodate the two car tunnels, installing steps up
to upper plaza and removing the bike/disabled ramp: <a

5. Bus Your Bike Trial
From PTV: Victoria is conducting its first trial of bike racks on
buses, servicing four metropolitan and regional bus routes. The
one year trial will see bike racks fitted to the front of 15 buses
operating on Bendigo Route 16, Routes 510 and 512 in Moreland, and
the Cowes to Wonthaggi service.

The bike racks, each capable of carrying two bikes, will
enable passengers to ride to their local bus stop and then catch
public transport to continue their journey. The trial is also
aimed at alleviating congestion on local roads and providing an
environmentally friendly transport option for Victorians. Riders
using the bike racks simply secure their bike using the
spring-loaded clamps, before boarding the bus and paying the
standard fare. At the end of the trial a full assessment of the
impact on service including patronage, performance and customer
satisfaction will be carried out.
6. Would you use a new Merri Creek footbridge?
From The Merri Creek Bridge Group: If a new bridge was built
over the Merri Creek near CERES, would you use it?
Fill out this 5 minute survey and have your say: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/C2KKQGC

Right now a feasibility study funded by Darebin and Moreland
Councils is under way to see if a new bridge for cyclists and
pedestrians is viable, spanning the Merri Creek from Beavers
Road Northcote to near CERES on the East Brunswick side. The
study is in response to a petition signed by 1400 locals calling
for a bridge - a BIG thanks to those of you who have helped this
campaign so far. Survey results will be collated by the Merri
Creek Bridge Group to show the level of demand for a new bridge,
wanted as a safer alternative to the busy road crossings at
Arthurton Road and Normanby Avenue. Fill the survey out before
18 May and share the link with your friends, family and
neighbours to help strengthen the campaign for a safer creek
crossing. Even if you'd only use a bridge once a month, we'd
like to know. There's a map included with the survey to help you
consider where you might be travelling to or from. For more

7. St Georges Road / Arthurton Road path works: 18 May to 3 June
2016
From Darebin Council: Council contractors will be completing
safety works immediately south of Arthurton Road from Wednesday 18
May to 3 June 2016. There will be disruption to the path and bike
riders will be required to dismount and walk for the length of the
works (roughly 60m). These safety works were recommended in the St
Georges Road Shared Path Safety Audit. Currently the path curves
sharply and steeply (yellow area in attachment), these works will
realign the path to provide a wider, gentler grade for the tram
track crossing, and will separate out pedestrian and bicycles. If
you have any questions about these works please contact Che
Sutherland, Team Leader Transport Strategy, PH: 8470 8665, email:

8. Main Yarra Trail Cycling Detour: 2 May until October
2016
From City of Stonnington: Construction is now underway for the
Yarra River Biodiversity Trail Stages 4 & 5 along the edge
of the Yarra River, between Chapel Street and Williams Road,
South Yarra. These works will require closure of the Yarra River
Trail between Chapel Street and Williams Road, pedestrian and
cyclist detours will be in place for the duration of the works.
Closure of the trail in this section is scheduled to commence
Monday 2nd May until the end of October 2016. A cyclist detour
to the northern side of the Yarra River will be in operation for
the duration of the works, detour at Grange Road Bridge and
Anderson Street Bridge.
