<font face="Calibri">Hi everyone,<br>
<br>
First up - reporting good news from Yarra Councils Special Budget
meeting from Tuesday night - the funding for the Rushall station
bypass was passed with amendments. <br>
<br>
<i>"Following community feedback, Council has deferred plans for a
$650,000 shared pathway connecting Merri Creek Trail to Rushall
Reserve. <br>
Council will conduct further community consultation on this
project before making any further decision."<br>
<br>
</i>The future consultation is important - this is where your
contributions will be vital!<i><br>
</i><br>
$500k was also approved for the Wellington Street "Copenhagen"
Lanes in Collingwood.<br>

<br>
Thank you all so much for all your emails and correspondence to
Yarra Council - as they received a *lot of feedback* this week
about the need for an appropriate (and much overdue) bypass to the
Rushall Station underpass.<br>

<b>3. Lock, Shop and Latte - Saturday 14 June 2014<br>
<br>
</b><b>Look out for City of Yarra officers on Queens </b><b>Parade
tomorrow (Saturday 14 June) with prizes and giveaways</b><br>
Lock Shop and Latte logoShopping by bicycle is more convenient
than ever thanks to the increasing number of bike parking spaces
in local shopping strips throughout Yarra.<br>
Council has installed an additional 218 bike parking spaces in
shopping strips and popular café precincts over the last two
years. <br>
In 2014, 25 rails were installed in Brunswick Street (Fitzroy) and
most recently, another 30 hoops were added in Queens Parade
(Clifton Hill). Facilities in Swan Street and Bridge Road,
Richmond will be reviewed in the 2014/15 financial year.<br>
<br>
By providing more bike parking, Council wants to make it easier to
for cyclists to get to shopping strips by bike and to park them
conveniently so they do not clutter the footpath or disturb
pedestrians.<br>
In other words, we’re encouraging cyclists who visit shopping
strips to dismount from their bikes and Lock, Shop and Latte! <br>

<b>4. Section of Drummond Street, Carlton to close for
construction works</b><br>
The City of Melbourne is completing major construction works
around Neill Street Reserve in Carlton, which will affect cycling
conditions in the local area.<br>
<br>
The works will occur from mid-June 2014 to April 2015 and will
involve constructing a community square, multi-use sports courts
and other open space improvements.<br>
The shared cycling and pedestrian path between Drummond Street,
Carlton (immediately south of Princes St) and Palmerston Street
will be closed for the duration of the works.<br>
Cyclists are encouraged to use an alternative route onto Rathdowne
Street, using either Lee Street, North Carlton, or Colgan Street,
Carlton. Please note that Colgan Street is currently closed, but
is expected to be open for public use after 16 June 2014.<br>

<b>5. Detours on Main Yarra Trail in Abbotsford until late June</b><br>
A section of the Main Yarra Trail at Abbotsford will remain closed
until late June for Parks Victoria works.</font><br>
<font face="Calibri">The section of path that runs between Walmer
Street and Victoria Road was expected to reopen on 16 May but will
remain closed to cyclists and pedestrians while Parks Victoria
carries out urgent works to replace deteriorated timber decking.<br>
Parks Victoria have advised that the works uncovered further
problems that required the order of special materials, extending
the closure.<br>
Cracks have also been identified in a bluestone wall near the path
so the wall will be rebuilt as part of the works.<br>
Signage indicating detours will be place during the works.<br>
Detours for cyclists will head down Burnley and Crown streets to
rejoin the trail, while pedestrians will be able to rejoin the
trail from Victoria Street, at entry points next to the Victoria
Street Bridge.<br>
<b><br>
The closed section of the path is expected to re-open on Friday
27 June.</b><b><br>
</b>Parks Victoria will keep the community informed of progress as
more information becomes available.<br>
For more information about these works, please contact Parks
Victoria’s Matt Hoogland, Ranger in Charge, Waterways on 9426 4626
or <a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="mailto:matthew.hoogland@parks.vic.gov.au">matthew.hoogland@parks.vic.gov.au</a>.<br>
