<b>3. Chandler Highway Survey - Have Your Say</b><br>
More about ongoing local Chandler Highway issues, as mentioned in
CoY BAC minutes.<br>
<br>
Melb Times Weekly: Hopes for Chandler Highway bridge fix (19
October 2010)<br>
Action may finally be imminent on Alphington’s most loathed
bottleneck after VicRoads unveiled plans to fix the Chandler
Highway bridge.<br>
VicRoads released four options to redevelop the Yarra River
crossing, which Leader readers labelled Melbourne’s second-worst
congestion point in the 2010 Redspot Survey.<br>
RACV traffic and roads chief engineer Peter Daly welcomed the
plans. “Whilst we expect genuine consultation with the community,
the government needs to get on with it to resolve the congestion
issues the current bridge poses,” he said.<br>
<br>
VicRoads will accept comments until November 12 on 9313 1175 or <a

<b>4. Main Yarra Trail off peak diversion Gibdon St to Mary St -
close out + Punt Road scaffold</b><br>
Forwarding on the following two messages from Transurban;<br>
<br>
a. CityLink would like to advise that whilst the shorter Main
Yarra Trail detour between Barkly Avenue and Mary Street remains
in place, the long off-peak detour between Gibdon Street and Mary
Street in Burnley has now been closed out. We thank you for your
patience whilst the works were underway.<br>
<br>
b. On Monday 15th of November it is planned to remove the scaffold
at the pier immediately east of Punt Road (Pier 8) including the
supporting cover-way on the shared user path. Rather than closing
the path, we propose to use traffic management either side of the
cover-way to stop the traffic on the shared user path for short
periods of time to enable it to be dismantled. We endeavour to get
these works done during the off-peak hours of the day (9.30am –
3.30pm), and the process should only take one day to complete.<br>

5. News from BV: Help us improve facilities in your local area</b><br>
Bicycle Victoria would like to gain a better understanding into
their rider community and have asked us to undertake some bicycle
and usage counting along off-road Melbourne trails, but we need
your help with the count! Similar to the Annual Super Tuesday Bike
Count, this data will assist council to make more superior
informed decisions about where to place future infrastructure
upgrades or facility improvements on off-road Melbourne trails.
The count is scheduled from 11am - 3pm on Sunday 14 November at
the following routes, Main Yarra Trail, Capital City Trail, Bay
Trail, Maribrynong River Trail:<br>
<a moz-do-not-send="true" class="moz-txt-link-freetext"
href="http://www.bv.com.au/bike-futures/10000018/">http://www.bv.com.au/bike-futures/10000018/</a><br>
<br>
There are 18 sites in total that require counters, to be completed
in 2x 2 hour shifts (11am - 1pm or 1pm – 3pm) or 1x 4 hour shift,
the choice is yours. Assist us with the count and reward your
local BUG, school or club with: $60 (for 2 hour shift), $120 (for
the full 4 hour shift)<br>
<br>
Your involvement in this is vital in making the count a success
and to provide the best possible data to council. Email us (<a
moz-do-not-send="true" class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated"
href="mailto:jeffm@bv.com.au">jeffm@bv.com.au</a>) if you would
like to change your world and help with the count! Make sure you
include the following information in your email:<br>
<br>
- What site (Main Yarra Trail, Capital City Trail, Bay Trail &
Maribrynong River Trail) you would like to count at<br>
- Whether you would like to do a 2 hour shift or the full 4 hours<br>
- The local BUG, school or club that you would like to donate the
money to<br>
<br>
If you are unable to assist with the count, or would like to give
us greater insight into your riding world, tell us what you think
about off-road Melbourne trails so we can provide council with
your valuable feedback. Together we can make a difference! Help
us with the count &/or fill out the survey and assist us to
get more people cycling more often in your local area.<br>

<b>CYCLING COURSES</b><br>
<br>
<b><br>
6. The Tao of City Cycling: commuter cyclists’ seminars - from
27 October 2010</b><br>
Four experienced (100 years between them!) urban bike commuters
are running what is probably one of the world's most innovative
commuter cyclist courses. It is based on the notion that if one
understands the expectations of other road users and shapers as
one cycles among them, one can better anticipate the worlds one is
cycling through.The course, offered by the Council of Adult
Education, begins on the 27/10/10 (i.e. Wed. next week), for 4
weeks from 4-6pm. It is a practical application of the social
dynamics' approach developed over 30 years by Monash Uni's
Grad.School of Env.Sc. and now taught by Swinburne's Nat.C.for
Sustainability in its Grad.Cert.Sustainability course "Principles
of Sustainability"<br>

12. National Bicycle Strategy 2011-2016</b><br>
From the Australian Bicycle Council - Gearing up for active and
sustainable communities provides an exciting opportunity to extend
the benefits of cycling to all. More people in Australia are
cycling than ever before. Whether it is for getting from a to b,
for keeping fit or for having fun, over 1.9 million people now
cycle in Australia and 2008 saw the largest ever increase in
people riding their bikes.This increase is welcome – and to be
encouraged. More people on bikes means a more active, healthier
population. It means fitter citizens who can live in cleaner, less
congested cities. And it means more people who can travel or enjoy
themselves while leaving only a fraction of the carbon footprint
of other modes of transport. <br>
