*_Your Support is Needed_*

The next Yarra council meeting on 20 April 2021 will vote on a
southbound protected bicycle lane on Brunswick Street approaching
Victoria Parade alongside other tram improvement works.

This is a relatively small but important joint project between Yarra
Council and Department of Transport and no doubt many of you would of
ridden along new seperated cycling lanes, where City of Melbourne
partnered with Department of Transport;
https://www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/parking-and-transport/cycling/Pages/cycling-lanes-and-routes.aspx

For additional details, refer to page 46-53, Item 8.4: Brunswick Street
- Part time tram lane and bicycle upgrades:
https://www.yarracity.vic.gov.au/events/2021/04/20/council-meeting

Quote from DoT proposal (page 51):
"27. Install a new protected bike lane on the approach to Victoria
Parade (Figure 4) and reducing conflict between bikes and turning
vehicles, by:
(a) removing the kerb-side traffic lane for 60m on the approach to
Victoria Parade;
(b) installing a protected bike lane for approximately 60m on the
approach to the intersection;
(c) removing three parking bays on the approach to the bike lane;
(d) banning left-turns for vehicles from Brunswick Street into Victoria
Parade, and
(e) continuing the protected bike lanes through the centre-median on
Victoria Parade."

*_Some suggestions about what you can tell Yarra Council_*

- Riding conditions at the southbound corner of Brunswick Street and
Victoria Parade must be improved as many find it a narrow pitch point,
very daunting and vulnerable road users should be protected,
- You support a southbound protected bicycle lane make this area safer
for bicycle riders,
- Any suggestions, observations you have about riding in the area.
