_*2. Copenhagen lanes proposed for Wellington Street*_
The evening of 17th April 2012 proved unexpectantly exciting for the
riders of inner Melbourne, with both Melbourne & Yarra Councils
unanimously passing decisions for Copenhagen lane treatments for La
Trobe Street & Wellington Street. These initiatives need your support
and constructive feedback, we'll keep you informed of when the public
consultation process is open for Yarra.

*Yarra Council: Proposed separated bike lanes in Wellington Street*
>From mid-May, Council will seek community feedback on a proposal to
construct new bike lanes in Wellington Street, Collingwood. This project
was identified as a key priority in Council's Bicycle Strategy, which
sets out to create five major separated on-road bicycle routes by 2013.
Council is proposing to construct 'Copenhagen' bike lanes in the section
of Wellington Street between Johnston Street and Victoria Street.
Copenhagen lanes are designed to physically separate cyclists and
motorists. Under Council's proposed plan, one side of the street would
be separated by a lane of parked cars and the other side would be
separated by a raised strip.

*Yarra Bicycle Works Update, March 2012*//
/ Alistair McDonald, Bicycle Strategy Project Manager/

·Investigations are continuing into providing a facility on
    Brunswick St at Victoria Pde
·The early bike head start signals and new green paint have been
installed on Brunswick St and we are just waiting for a problem with
the detectors to be sorted out before switching them on
·The marking out for Elizabeth St has been finalised and linemarking
should be completed shortly (see Bicycle Network blurb at
    http://www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/general/change-the-world/40562/ )

·Talks are ongoing with VicRoads about improved bicycle facilities
at the signal on Elizabeth St at the Church and Hoddle St intersections
·The Langridge St Bicycle and Vibraline works have been completed.
The early bicycle head start at the signals on Langridge St is still
some way off. Some speed humps have been installed to replace the
existing speed cushions to stop cars swerving into the bike lane
    (see Bicycle Network blurb at
    http://www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/general/change-the-world/94384/)
·The VicRoads funded works on Heidelberg Road have been completed
and include the installation of Vibraline, additional greenpaint and
    bollards at the eastbound merge
·The idea of a sharrow trial with VicRoads is slowly ticking along
which support from some other local councils. Hopefully there
should be something to report for the next meeting.
·Designs prepared for six locations and consultation underway (see
Feb 28 BAC Minutes for details).
·Trial of Pole Vault style parking to be completed end April.

Cheers and happy cycling!
