I haven't seen any signs anywhere to indicate where
bikes should go on
Connex trains yet. And signs at stations saying they are
not allowed on
peak hour trains have taken a while to disappear.

I just checked the
Connex web site and it's not all that easy to find out
what the current
rules are - in fact the two leads I followed up seemed to
contradict each
other. Under 'FAQs' they say that bikes can be carried at
all times and
should go in the back of the train, but under 'Customer
Charter' they still
say that passengers are requested not to bring bikes
during peak times. You
have to do a lot of scrolling to find the
relevant
sections.

Julia

Address: 29 Elgin Street, Hawthorn,

28/3

Hi all,

A couple of items to discuss, this is lengthy, so
bear with me!

- Follow up from the ban being lifting
-
Implementation of Folding Bikes on PT
- Articles in the media about
bicycles & bikes
- Request from BV's Ride On magazine for information
about bike cages.

1. Follow up from the ban being lifting
First
up, follow up from the bans being lifted in February. As
mentioned,
somewhat casually a while ago on this list, I was suggesting
a catchup
and/or debrief regarding the BtBB campaign. As now Easter has
passed, how
about a catch up either in person or online? I suggest next
Saturday 5/4
at CERES, 1pm at the cafe. It would be good to hear how
people are free to
take their bicycles on peak-hour services and any
challenges or feedback
they have or may of received from either the
public or Connex/VLine
staff.

In regards to Niks feedback about dogs being banned on VLine -
is this a
ban on ALL dogs at ALL times or is there allowances for Guide
Dogs and
any provision for other situations?

2. Implementation
of Folding Bikes on PT
Returning to the Feb announcement from
MetLink:
<A

need to monitor how these changes are implemented, as mentioned in
the
MetLink announcement:

Quote: Other changes will be made to improve
public transport access for
passengers with bikes. These
include:

* Signage and markings to outline bike
parking and storage
facilities, bike paths
near railway stations and where passengers
with bikes should travel on public transport.
* A
campaign to promote bike storage facilities and information
on
how to travel safely and courteously with
a bike on public transport.
* Standards for carrying
folding bikes on all modes of public
transport. The Department of Infrastructure will work with
public
transport operators and bicycle
groups to develop standards for
carrying
folding bikes on all modes, including metropolitan
trams
and metropolitan and regional buses.
It is expected that with a
successful
consultation, folding bikes could be taken on buses
and
trams from 1 April 2008.

Existing
Guidelines:
<A

to be implemented on April1?

3. Articles in the media about
bicycles & bikes
Thought these articles relating to bicycles and train
use would interest
you. Yes there's even a footy reference! ABC's
Stateline on Friday also
had a story about a young womans return to work
via a program at Toll
Holdings, it also included her commute by bicycle
and train to work. The
transcript isn't up yet, but check this link

I'm from BV's
Ride On magazine and I'm writing an article about the govt's
plan to
introduce bike cages @ train stations. I wanted to interview
yourself or a
member who is a commuter who rides to work, would benefit
from bike
cages at
stations or would have anything to say about the
benefits. Maybe even
someone who has had a bike stolen from a station in
the past? Please
reply
email to <A
