Hi all, sorry didn't make the meeting. here is the wish list for Geelong
with consultation to some extent with the Public Transport Users Association
Geelong branch.

_____
Immediate:
* Bicycles must be able to be taken onto trains.
* With 'old school', locomotive powered trains there is no issue as a
goods van is always attached which are capable of carrying many
bikes per journey. With these trains there is no problem. Bikes are
adequately stored well away from passengers.
* If these trains were advertised as the cyclist friendly service,
cyclists could take these services without problem.
* The newer 'Sprinter' & 'VLocity' trains have luggage areas that
encroach on 'passenger areas', more so the Sprinter.
* Multi use cargo areas with bicycle hooks which fold away for other
'luggage'
* A pre booking service could apply although this could be cumbersome
to administer and in some ways unfair for those who do not take
advantage of the system.
* Arrangements need to be made for a 'fail safe' system, in place for
those who have never used trains or have not used them for some time.
They arrive at the station for a one off appointment in Melbourne with
their bicycle and need to take the bicycle with them.
Future:
* The freedom to take bicycles on trains must be accepted, not only in
the way that a suitcase is carried without concern, but in order to get as
many people as possible to travel by all means possible other than private
motor vehicle.
Reducing the need to take bicycles on trains will be assisted by:
* Installation of lockers* at every station, with easily
understood directions for use by both patrons and rail staff.
* 'Sponsorship' by patrons purchasing their own locker
could be an option however ultimately lockers need to be supplied
at minimal cost and procedure to the user.
* Bicycle hire at main stations in circumstances that
encourage use such as:
* Easily operated
* Extremely inexpensive
* Promoting use in many media forms
* Purchase of trains that have more than adequate storage facilities
for bicycles.
* Those facilities must include ease of access/egress at stations
while maintaining security from persons on station platforms
* Bicycles are very vulnerable to theft. Bicycle cages
at stations is a substandard
option that offers little more security than bicycle racks.
