Bin the Bike Ban..... and the word is bicycles! Please assist by
forwarding this message to all!
A meeting of 20 strong cyclists and supporters was held at Mount
Alexander Sustainabilty Group, 233 Barker st, Castlemaine, 14th Jan in
relation to the ongoing campaign of protest against Vlines decision to
ban bikes on peak services.
The group is asking for:
*1. a reversal of the current ban*
*2. open the doors to ongoing discussion and consultation on public
transport, commuting and bicycles*
This will be addressed via a 4 pronged action plan:
__
1. Emails, letters, petition and deputations to local and state
Government reps and departments.
2. Invite a V/Line representative to a public forum/consultation on the
issue.
3. Bin the bike ban protest_ gathering, bring your cardboard bike on
Wednesday 23rd Jan, from 7am gather at Castlemaine station_ and tell
your cycling story with others, come share a cuppa and then board the
7.49am peak hour train service to Bendigo to campaign with others to get
the message across to VLINE that they must withdraw the ban. We expect
100 strong or more cyclists and supporters to be gathering in Central
Victoria. Tell everyone to be there! See the MASG web site for cardboard
bike making ideas. Cardboard can be found at bike shops or the tip. Go
recycle to cycle!!!!!!
4. On going long term campaigning and meetings to look at the longer
term issues and discussions with Vline and Public Transport officials.
The group will be meeting again at this Monday 21st, 6.30pm at MASG, 233
Barker st, Castlemaine. Dont forget .... go create your cardboard bike
and come along on an adventure on Vline on the 23rd!
Your support and committment is being sought on this issue which goes a
long way to finding immediate to long term solutions
to addressing ongoing environmental/sustainable transport.
Transport is about 15% of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions, and
about 17% in Central Victoria. If a person who normally cycles to the
station in Bendigo, trains and then cycles in Melbourne, now has to
drive all the way, then that would create an additional 28 tons per
year, approx, and for someone commuting by car between Bendigo and
Castlemaine it would be about 3 tons per year

to the morning, or wants more information, please get in contact with

I know I'm gonna be glad,
I know it's today, yeah.
This law that's driving me mad,
it's going away, yeah.
We've got a ticket to ride
We've got a ticket to ride
We've got a ticket to ride
But VLine don't care
