We didn't have a meeting in Castlemaine on the weekend, but tonight MASG
(the Mount Alexander Sustainability Group) are having a meeting about the
ban at 6.30 pm at their office on the corner of Templeton and Barker Streets
in Castlemaine.

I did the bike commute for the first time this morning. There were no other
bikes on the train, which surprised me. However, when I asked a regular bike
commuter why he hadn't brought his bike, he said that someone else had taken
their bike (to Bendigo) on the 4th and had been told that he'd have to get
off the train. People are not aware of the 'grace period' -- even the station
staff in Castlemaine said that they'd 'heard a rumour', meaning that they
had not had official notice. As always, they are supportive and think the
ban is ridiculous.

On another matter, someone's just told me that there will be a new bus route
from North Melbourne Station to the University of Melbourne from March 2008.
Good news, although I'd still rather ride my bike!
