Subject: [publictransport] Ban only applies in peak direction
Many reports of the bike ban have not made clear that it only applies to
those travelling with the peak flow. This is what the Connex web site
actually says:
'Bicycles will not be permitted on services travelling through Zone 1 that
arrive in Melbourne between 7.00 am and 9.00 am and depart Melbourne between
4.00 pm and 7.00 pm from Tuesday, 1 January 2008.'
What this doesn't spell out is that it only applies on week days which I
assume is the case. This needs to be clarified as many recreational riders
use the trains on weekends.
So if you want to choose a time for a group to contravene the ban I'd
suggest that travelling out of the city between 4 and 4.30pm would be a good
time. My experience is that this is not a particularly busy time and I don't
know why they started the ban so early.
