Pretty much summed up in this Ministerial correspondence ... & I quote
"
On Monday 21 January 2008 the Minister announced that she would review
the implementation of the proposed changes.
During the review the Minister will hold discussions with Connex,
V/Line, Bicycle Victoria and other stakeholders. Your views will also
be taken into account during this process.
It is expected that the outcome of the review will be announced during
February 2008."
Bottom line, it is the Minister doing the review, on her terms and in her
own inimitable alienating way...
The "outcome" probably won't suit those most affected...
I expect it will :-
* permit "folding bicycles "- how original, thank you BV..sheesh.( they will
have to be in bags and on terms as used in Perth... no original thought
capability!)
* It will insist riders with non folding bicycles not board trains with
their bicycles , "unless absolutely necessary", and will probably have
station masters and drivers left with a discretion to ask you to get off or
not board.
* It will say bike storeage cages are the way to go ( subject to trial of
course)...
* it will make no mention of lockers as a solution to security and imbuing
confidence in commuters with bikes.
* It will not have any future thinking regarding intermodal integration
regarding bicycles.
* It will have the best spin possible for the Minister so she looks
fantastic to the media and the car lobby.
* It will waffle on about new carriages and ask for patience and
co-operation until they come on line ( at which time our PT situation will
be exponentially worse and the new carriages totally ineffective and ill
suited to the needs of Melbourne ( read still with old seat configuration)
* She will not change any seat configurations on existing train carriages,
preferring perceived comfort of the few seated over perceived relief of the
population of all commuters that they can get to work on time.
* It will be a waste of time and we will have to keep protesting for better
system management, much, much, more rolling stock and infrastructure
upgrades.
* There will be another review in due course at the minister's discretion.
I could be wrong, but I doubt it!

So what happened to the feedback/review process that was to happen before
any media release?
