Fascinating Stuff.
The local council I work at just received an email request from the
Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) for feedback on the Bicycle Ban -
sent to all Council's I'd guess.
The email says:
Afternoon all,
I have just been invited to a meeting with PT Minister - The Hon Lynne Kosky
and various bicycle groups on Wednesday 6 February to discuss the banning of
bicycles on metro and Vline trains. This policy is currently on hold.
(Background - On 1 January 2008, the Government introduced a policy banning
bikes from all V/Line and metropolitan train that depart or enter Melbourne
during the morning and early evening peak hours).
If there are any particular views you wish me to convey at this meeting,
please let me know by noon on Tuesday 5 February.
Many thanks,
So this quick crisis review seems to be casting its net fairly wide - which
can only be a good thing :)
I wonder who the "various bicycle groups" are??? - Hopefully not just BV!
I'll make sure that the main points about immediately lifting the ban,
consulting widely, bicycle carriages etc. is sent back to the MVA.
Anyway, I'd say it's a safe bet that the Minister's Office is still
accepting feedback on the ban - so if you haven't sent in your two bobs
worth yet, you won't be wasting your time. Every pro-bicycle submission the
Minister receives will let her know (and the ALP govt) that yet another
unhappy bicycle rider might just remember this ban when it comes time to
vote at the next state election!
